Actors to Vote on Strike Deal After SAG-AFTRA Board’s Approval

A potential deal with the studios that might put an end to the 116-day strike will be put to a vote by SAG-AFTRA members, the organization that represents over 160,000 performers. A potential deal with the studios that might put an end to the 116-day strike will be put to a vote by SAG-AFTRA members, the organization that represents over 160,000 performers. Following weeks of discussions with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the accord was accepted by the SAG-AFTRA national board on Monday.

Increased pay, better residuals for streaming services, and additional safeguards against performers using digital scans and artificial intelligence are all part of the agreement. The agreement resolved the “most critical issues” that the actors were experiencing, according to the union, making it “a landmark achievement.”

Beginning on Tuesday, there will be two weeks of voting. A majority of the members who voted in favor of the agreement must approve it. The agreement will cover a three-year contract that ends on June 30, 2026, if it is approved.

The first walkout by actors against the TV and film industries since 1980 started on July 1, 2023. It also fell in line with the ongoing writers’ strike, which began on May 1. Numerous shows and films have been delayed in their development and distribution, costing the studios and the employees money.
