Both Diablo 4 and Hogwarts Legacy are open-world action RPGs with a lot of content to explore. However, both games have been criticized for making players wait too long to unlock a mount.

In Hogwarts Legacy, players are initially restricted to exploring on foot. This can be a bit tedious, especially when the game’s world is so large. However, players eventually unlock the ability to fly on a broomstick, which makes getting around much faster and more enjoyable.

In Diablo 4, players have to wait even longer to unlock a mount. They don’t get access to a horse until they reach the end of Act 3. By that point, they’ve already explored a significant portion of the game’s world and unlocked most of the waypoints. As a result, the horse doesn’t really add much to the game.

What’s worse, the horse in Diablo 4 controls awkwardly and doesn’t seem to be much faster than running. This makes it feel like a pointless addition to the game.

It’s clear that Blizzard took inspiration from Hogwarts Legacy when designing Diablo 4. However, they made the mistake of doubling down on the mistake that Hogwarts Legacy made. By making players wait so long to unlock a mount, they made the game feel more tedious and less enjoyable.

Hopefully, Blizzard will address this issue in a future patch. In the meantime, players who are looking for a more enjoyable open-world action RPG should probably check out Hogwarts Legacy instead.

Here are some additional thoughts on the matter:

  • The long wait to unlock a mount in Diablo 4 is especially frustrating because the game’s world is so large and enemies are often spread out. This makes it difficult to get around quickly and efficiently, which can break up the flow of the game.
  • The horse in Diablo 4 also controls awkwardly. It’s easy to get stuck on obstacles, and it can be difficult to turn quickly. This makes it even more frustrating to use the horse to get around.
  • Blizzard could have easily addressed these issues by making the horse available earlier in the game or by making it control better. However, they chose not to do either of these things, which is a shame.

Overall, the long wait to unlock a mount in Diablo 4 is a major disappointment. It makes the game feel more tedious and less enjoyable, and it’s a decision that Blizzard should definitely reconsider in a future patch.
